Web Design Trends for 2023

A trend is much more than just a popular look or pattern of conduct that the general public adopts for a while. Design trends have a tendency to reflect on the past with nostalgia, connecting to the fashions and trends of the day and coming up with fresh approaches of incorporating them into the present.

Trends can motivate designers to develop fresh approaches to design that are anchored in their individual viewpoints and identities. When developing engaging user experiences for their users, trends may appear with cutting-edge technologies like Web3. Here are some trends that are going to be very popular in the coming 2023.

1.     Distinct cursors

You might recall changing your cursor to a kitten, happy face, or green alien head if you were online in the 1990s and the first few years of the 2000s. You might have had fun experimenting with the endlessly amusing clock, fairy dust, or ghost trail cursor effects. A particularly enjoyable period in cursor graphics history was Y2K. Expect to see more personalized cursors in 2023. Cursors can produce an interactive experience by using animated effects or by using an original image as an icon. Instead of downloading a cursor pack and infecting your computer with malware, you can use them this time.

2.     Pixelation

In the early days of computers, pixelation was a technical requirement, but as Y2K is making a comeback, it has evolved into an aesthetic. Recently, designers have used pixelation to add visual appeal to typefaces, icons, and images.

3.     Personal typefaces

We predict that in 2023, as text-based website designs continue to dominate, the use of unique typefaces and hand-crafted writing will become more prevalent. As a method to stand out, we've noticed an increasing number of designers designing typefaces or unique lettering for their own projects or those of clients. Since type-centric designs have been popular for a while, this design aesthetic builds on that trend while adding a whole new degree of creativity.

Additionally, no certain designs or fashion trends will prevail in all instances.

We observe designers incorporating their own touches from anything and everything, including poster design, graphic novels, real-world materials, and even their own lives, given the bespoke character of this trend.

4.     Illustrations that have depth

Illustrations that resemble the virtual world are becoming more popular as the metaverse grows, with 3D illustrations and Claymorphism setting the trend.  While 3D illustrations were popular in past years, they were primarily used as illustrations. By including animations, full-page effects, and multi-layered images, modern websites are starting to add dimension in a more immersive way, drawing viewers into cyberspace.

5.     'Just for fun' interactions

We anticipate seeing more "just for fun" interactions this year, which have no specific function other than to improve a user's experience on a website. Continuing the trend of app-like websites from the previous year, just for fun interactions allow visitors to interact with a site and bring that sensory delight to particular areas of a broader site.
